What is LCL and FCL Container Freight Shipping?

If the cargo to be transported does not fill a container, cargoes with two or more recipients are loaded into it, providing Seaway Partial Service Service (LCL) and Full Container Load (FCL) are two options for container cargo transportation.

LCL means combining several cargoes in one container and FCL means a full container loaded by a single shipper.

Sea freight is carried in containers that come in different sizes. The smallest container has a capacity of 33 cubic meters, the largest 76 cubic meters. Sea freight is less protected during shipping than air freight. The nature of ocean shipping makes cargo more vulnerable to damage such as falling off the ship or even piracy. While freight loss and theft rates are low, there is a greater threat to a shipment on board than on an airplane.

Reliability

In addition to long transit times, shipments by sea are often subject to delays and disruptions due to customs clearance, weather and other conditions. Due to these factors, sea shipping delivery dates are quite uncertain.
